Chaos Warrior Bust

My first painted bust - a chaos warrior bust boxart for Micromancer miniatures. This was graet experience so I hope to paint some busts in 2019.

Grumlok & Gazbag

Grumlok & Gazbag is a very strange miniature. Honestly it more looks like the brick of the white metal mocking up the orc and the goblin. Also is is one of the kind of the "flat" miniatures where only two informative views exist. So there is only front and rear pictures and a face close up to see the watching eye.

Elf-sorceress

I converted and painted this miniature few weeks ago not only as a commission but also to compete on Femme Fatale contest (on Wyrd forums). It was my second try - and I lose again. Maybe I should paint better. And choose miniatures without an opened mouth. (Last year there was Misaki)
I needed to change old but beautiful dark elf sorceress miniature to high elf shaman girl with some dwarf motive details. I used few plastic parts for the conversion. Also I cleaned and smooth out some details. For sculpting I used Tamiya epoxy putty mostly. Added stones for a base I did with milliput.

Chaos Dwarf Magma Cannon

Finally, it's  fully painted! This miniature was started 5 years ago, in May 2012. And it was done with very looooooooong breaks all this time. Therefore, in places this work looks like the monster of Dr. Frankenstein - assembled from different parts, painted with different levels of painting skills. After this amount of time, it's interesting to see the changes in the basic paint recipes that I used. Almost everywhere I switched from paint GW to Vallejo, except gray skn, where Vallejo was originally.
However, nothing stands still and now I would like to radically change the schemes of the bronze and gold NMM to reach a new level of skills and try something different.

It remains to do only one small thing - to rearrange the cannon to the gaming base and add it to my Chaos Dwarfs army

Daemonsmith project: the final

Finally, the project "Daemonsmith" is over and I can show you the photos of the finished work.
Throughout the whole time I tried to give this dwarf the most grim appearance, while retaining the  miniature own style.

The most difficult part of this project was the combination of cold reflexes from crystals and a warm glow of the fireball in the hand. Also, it was necessary to save the helmet as a focal point of a miniature, because of which I abandoned the glow in the upper part, replacing it with a bright red collar.

I hope this project was not only useful for me, but also for the readers of the blog. I tried to keep some of the recipes and nuances used in the painting process.

Best Regards,
RWD

Daemonsmith project: part5

This part of the work on Daemonsmith was differed from the previous ones in that I actively used colors from the Vallejo's Game Color palette. Because now I'm actively working on developing my NMM style, the opportunity to try new colors and palettes was very important for me.

The base for red on the handle of the hammer was Heavy Red (Extra Opaque), after which the base color was highlighted with the addition of Bonewhite (VGC)
For bronze on the hammer, I used a mixture of Charred Brown (VCG) and black (3: 1) and flashed with the addition of Dark Fleshtone, slightly Beasty brown and then Offwhite (all VCG)
Patina was first made by wash by Green Wash and then I used Verdygris (Vallejo Game Effects).

This is the last WIP post of this project, next time I will show the completed miniature.

Verdygris (Vallejo Game Effects).

Daemonsmith project: part4

In this part of the project, I had a difficult task - to combine a warm glow from a fireball in the hand of a Deamonsmith with the cold reflections from the crystals. Unfortunately, because of the small size and placement, the fireball turned darker than I expected. Perhaps I will correct this in the next part.
For reflexes from flames, I used Heavy Red (VGC) for the base layer, with highlights by glazes by the Dark Vermillion, Amarantha Red and a mixture of Amarantha Red and Scrofulous Brown. The same flame was made as well as on Lady Justice
In addition to the glow, I completed the armor on his legs from behind and one of the bracers. There I also combined warm reflexes from light bulbs and cold ones from the crystals.
Next time, I hope to complete the armor and helmet and go to the hammer.

Woodelf wardancer

Only pictures.
Few word about conversion you can find here.

Woodelf wardancer. Few words about conversion

Sometimes clients order me to do not only painting a miniature but make small conversions with this or that figure. In this case, it turned out that not difficult conversion changed image strongly enough.

Daemonsmith project: part3

In this part of the project, I want to show the process of working on the color scheme of the steel NMM armor and the reflexes from the crystals on the base. I started with the bottom half of the gnome, because the picture of the reflexes on this part is easier because it's necessary to consider only the arrangement of the crystals.
In the process of painting, I periodically rearranged the miniatures from temporary base to the painted base see how it will look in the overally.

For HMM, I used my usual  color scheme with a German cam. Black Brown and Andrea Blue (short tutorial about this you may see on Figurementors site ), only made the medium color darker, and due to this it turned out to be more contrast.

Reflexes from crystals were made by glazing in several stages: Dark Vermillion, Scatlet, Scarlet + Candmium Skin. After that, the brightest parts of the reflexes were once again glazed with Dark Vermillion to make them more red.

Daemonsmith project: part2

As promised last time, I started with painting of the base. Initially, I planned to make  glowing from inside crystals but then I changed the idea in favor of the red gems. So instead of a warm orange color, they was made in cold red tones.

As the base color for the crystals, I used a mixture of Carmine Red (VMC) and black, and when sequentially highlighted them through pure Carmine Red and Dark Vermillion (VMC) to Scarlet (VMC).
For the final highlights, I used a mixture of Scarlett and Cadmium Skin (VGC), which gradually added white. In addition some Dark Vermillion glazings was made during the highlighting process in order to keep a cold red tint.

The stone surface on the base I painted by drybrushing from the base mix of German cam. Black brown and Reflective Green (both VMCs) with the addition of more and more Iraqui Sand (VMC). At the same time, I actively used the washes of different colors: green, purple, turquoise and red.

Daemonsmith project: part1

"Mint Dragon" and "La Bande En Parade" competitions are over now, and finally I have time for some delayed projects. For September I scheduled Chaos Dwarf  Daemonsmith for a comissioneer's army.
As you see for this project I had an Arkanaut Admiral miniature and Brokk Grungsson's head. I'm not planning any grand conversions and I'll try to make the miniature look more evil because of the grim colour scheme and lighting effects. I'll change only the runes and ancestors images so they look more traditional for chaos dwarfs.
The base is made from pine bark and epoxy putty using the technique described here. In addition, I adorned the base with chrystals cut from the plastic sprues to picture a hellish cave. I think to start painting the base first.

(Brokk Grungsson).

Alarielle the Everqueen

It was very hard and slow painting work because miniature is very detailed and difficult to paint with/without assembly. And her size is about 54mm not 28mm.  All works - small converting and painting - took about 50 hours.
My customer asked to remove branches from legs and right arm. Also he wanted me to paint her without bug, on simple base with some mushrooms. And do her blonde hair and with pale skin.
I like her shapes (especcialy legs) and it very interesting idea about wings with leaves instead of feathers.
I took this miniature to the Hussar contest. But she took only Honorable mention.

Wood elf on stag

Old GW miniature. It was not easy to put together all details. Oh, how much glue and putty i used!
