Chaos Dwarf Infernal Guard Regiment

I've completed this regiment at last! Just 7.5 years of painting and it is done) The last ones is far different from the firet one but it diesn't matter. Just one mini now to go)

"Red Alabama" 2.0 ("Death is the road to awe...")

This is the second version of the painting of this wonderful bust. The work went on for a long time (almost a year) with large interruptions and with a complete repainting several times. The image was still not born. There was some vague idea about tattoos on the hands and a T-shirt with a logo, but somehow it did not work.

At some point, I decided to experiment with gold leaf (it was a big quest, where to get a small piece of this thinnest foil, and do not buy a thick folder with a lot of sheets). Around the same time, I revised the "Fountain" Darren Aronofsky.This film impresses me so hard. I watched it three times already, and every time it opens up on new sides. I am very touched by the story of the protagonist - about the inability to cope with death and acceptance of its human limitations. Plus it has a very rich symbolic material. And this gave me the inspiration to remake the bust once again, using some details from this story.

Это уже вторая версия покраски этого чудесного бюста. Работа шла долго (почти год) с большими перерывами и с полной перекраской несколько раз. Образ все никак не рождался.

Была какая-то смутная идея про татуировки на руках и майку с лого, но как-то дело не шло. 

В какой-то момент я решила поэкспериментировать с поталью (это был отдельный квест, где добыть маленький кусочек этой тончайшей фольги, и при этом не покупать толстую папку с множеством листов). Плюс примерно в это же время я пересматривала "Фонтан" Даррена Аронофски. Этот фильм меня очень цепляет, пересматривала его уже три раза, и каждый раз он раскрывается с новых сторон. Меня очень трогает история главного героя - про невозможность справиться со смертью и принятия своих человеческих ограничений. Плюс очень богатый символический материал. И вот это дало мне вдохновение переделать в очередной раз бюст, используя какие-то детали из этой истории.

Not Red Unicorn of Death

 This zwerg has a long and sad history. For the last five years he has been lying on the desktop and in boxes in various stages: semi-assembled, converted, once again converted, prepared for painting, partially painted, etc.
He is managed to be a warrior with a shield, a two-handed axe, a champion and a test model for a new painting scheme (twice). And even was the "Red Unicorn of Death" (actually Rot Einhorn des Todes - hallo mr. Ben Komets ;-) ) but not for long.
I was tired of everything and painted him late December. Now this guy is looking for a new home.

У этого цверга долгая и грустная история. Последние лет пять он валялся на рабочем столе и по коробкам в различных состояниях: полусобранный, переконверченный, ещё раз переконверченный, подготовленный к покрасу, частично покрашенный и т.д.
Он успел побыть воином со щитом, в двуручным топором, чепмпионом и тестовой моделью под новую схему покраски (дважды). И даже "Красным единорогом смерти" тоже был, хотя недолго.
В итого все закончилось как закончилось: перед новым годом мне все надоело, я его за пару дней таки докрасил. Теперь этот парень ищет себе новый дом.

Pinup Architect

A new pinup girl from Kingdom Death. 
This time I wanted to do something unusual. Additionally, I did not really like this miniature (incomprehensibly weapon, typical for KD thong, too deep-set "drowned" eyes. 
A few days before I took this miniature, we had a short conversation in Facebook with the German artist Klaus Dorn, where it came about purple fur as an option of some kind of non-standard approach. And with the purple fur I jokingly invented pink latex. This is how the pair "fur-latex" was born, which required implementation in some miniature. And this Architect was good variant to try some new approach. I cut off the stupid thong and tried to make a tight-fitting body latex suit. Now of course I think that latex does not have enough gloss and it might be worth it to make it more contrast. However, I'm glad that the seemingly insane idea about purple fur has led to a very interesting and pleasing to me personally (and the customer) result. But the problem of too deep-set eyes had to be masked by smudged cosmetics. 
I also attach a photo of the palette and colors that I used for the latex suit. Nothing complicated, just a lot of long and tedious work with layering and glazes for smooth transitions. Pleats (folds) and, that is not unimportant, nipples - are drawn, I mean I had to draw all these textures just simulating the volume with light and shadow.

Pinup Twilight Knight 2.0

And another new KD girl. And again it is second painting version - at this time I painted pinup Twilight Knight with a fur coat and in shiny armor.
I wanted to do very bright metal with active reflexes but failed especially with photography. Red-brown reflexes are not visible. Maybe I should have made it stronger? Because on finished miniature (and on the photo of cause) it seems no any reflexes.
But another part of this work was painting fur effect on the smooth surface and it was a lot of fun and joy. I will try to do easy step-by-step about it in future.

Spider silk assassin 2.0

It's time to present my second version of KD spider silk assassin.
My first assassin version is here.
I used warm color scheme with red, orange and yellow as main colors. But you can see some dark purple in shadows and on hairs.Hope it gives a chance to look warmer for skin tone and golden details.
For base I used cork (within) and milliput (outside) to do "random height blocks".

Brunette byzantine head by Alfons Maria Mucha

It is my second flat figure (bust).
First was "GIRL POWDERING HER NECK"
At last, I finished it. I started to paint this flat bust more than a year and a half ago, I made 90% of painting in the summer before last and got stuck. And I finished it only at the end of December by forcing myself to sit down and finish off. Well, the stand (base "frame", how to call this backdrop correctly) has definitely helped. Has received the made-to-order thing and already a sin was not finished painting.
The bust was presented to me by Sergey "Ookami" Gusev after his travel to Ingolstadt, which I was very happy about. I really like the work of Mucha, and here I also have a very good sculpture. Thanks to Ookami for the opportunity to work with such an interesting form.

Malifaux Monday #70: Santana Ortega

 Santana Ortega - one more miniature from Wyrd, which looks good alive, but very difficult to photograph. I tried to keep the color scheme from the original art, but at the same time make it more interesting. So I used different browns for jackets, pants and belts. I also used a warm and cold highlights to make the hat and boots different from the gloves and hairs.

For hairs and gloves, I used a mixture of black and Dark Sea Blue (VMC) for the base and highlighted it Iraqui Sand (VMC). For the hat and boots, a mixture of black and Skrag Brown (GW) and highlight it with Cadmium Skin (VGC)

Сантана Ортега - ешё одна миниатюра от Вирд, которая хорошо смотреится вживую, но очень сложная дл я фотографирования. Я старался сохранить световую схему с оригинального арта, но при этом сделать её более интересной. Поэтому я использовал разные оттентки коричневого для куртки, штанов и ремней. Также я использовал теплое и холодное высветление чрного для того чтобы отделить шляпу и сапоги от перчаток и волос.
Для волос и перчаток за основу я использовал смесь черного и Dark Sea Blue (VMC)  и высветлял её Iraqui Sand (VMC). Для шляпы и сапог была использована смесь черного и Skrag Brown (GW) и высветления с Cadmium Skin (VGC)

Malifaux Mondays #69: Neverborns from starter set

Finally, I start the second half of the first set. At the request of the customer, I changed the bases from the wooden floor to the tile stained with blood.

New to me was the work on  Nephelims skin painting recipes . I used the basic colors from the gray skin recipes, but instead of the greens I added purple and shadow flesh (VPA) in the shades. However, I did not finish the skin recipe to the end, so in the nearest future I'll try to paint the Nephelims again.

Despite the apparent simplicity of the miniatures, they were quite interesting for painting, and some I would paint with pleasure once again.

 Наконец-то я закончил вторую половину стартового набора Малифо. По просьбе заказчика я изменил подставки с деревянного пола на кафельную плику, испачканную в крови.
Новым для меня стало работа над рецептами кожи для нерожденных. Я использовал базовые цвета из рецептов серой кожи, но вместо зеленых оттенком я добавял в тени фиолетовые и shadow flesh (VPA). Однако рецепт кожи я так до конца и не отработал, поэтому в ближайщее время я постараюь покрасить ещё нерожденных.
Несмотря на кажущуюся простоту миниатюр, они были достаточно интересны для покраски, и некоторых я бы с удовольствием покрасил ещё раз.

Wet Nurse skin tone: step-by-step in pictures

Last winter I painted Kingdom death Wet Nurse and did some pictures while working with it. And forgot about it. A few days ago I found these pics and decided to post it as short step-by-step. Unfortunately I didn't find any records of painting recipes for these pictures (or I didn't write records?). So it will be the only photo. Hope maybe it can be useful for someone.
First part was about semitransparent stockings.
Today it's time for skin tone.
5 steps with layering.
The 6th picture seems a little bit different but it's only because of not the same taking picture conditions. This pic is about lining with purple-red diluted paint.

Malifaux Monday #68: Angel Eyes

 I almost finished the painting of the starter set from Malifaux miniatures game.

Angel Eyes, oddly enough, turned out most fast painted from the entire demonic half of the starter. Probably because of the most part of color scheme I used for this mini was very standard for me.

However, the NMM recipe I used in the rifle and knee pads was different from that I used commonly. Such a recipe can go well for a low-quality steel or alloy. Also, it can imitate metals that are under the influence of aggressive envirovment
The base paint for this variant is US Olive Drab (VMC), when it needs to adds a bit of turquoise (here Falcon Turquoise - VGC, but the specific paint is not so important), after which the mixture is highlighted with white to the pure white.

Я практически закончил работу над покраской стартового набора из игры Малифо.  
Ангельские Глазки, как это ни странно, получились наиболее просто из всей демонической половины стартера. Наверное потому, что больнинство цветовых решений было стандартным для меня. 
Однако рецепт НММ, который я использовал на винтовке и наколенниках немного отличается от того, который я использую в большинстве случаев. Такой рецепт может хорошо зайти для низкокачественной стали или сплава. Также им можно имитировать металлы, находящиеся под действием агрессивных сред.
Базовой краской для этого варианта является US Olive Drab (VMC), в него добавляется чуть-чуть бирюзового (здесь Falcon Turquoise - VGC, но конкретный оттенок не так важен), после чего смесь высветляется с помощью белого.

Malifaux Monday #67: Sandeep Desai

 Sandeep Desai is a very interesting miniature for painting, but terrible for photography. I did not manage to make photos, in which all parts of the miniature look like themselves. Agrrrrrrh!

I started this miniature in the summer, and experimented with it to find new paint recipes for the NMM, reds and painting faces. Experiments on painting faces poured into a Johan's face painting guide. But  I'm still not completely satisfied with reds and new NMM recipe.

The red cloak was made on the basis of the Bermellon, Burnt cad. red, Scarlett from Vallejo Model Color and Basic Red from Andrea. Next, I plan to use more reds from Anrdea, Dark Red for example. And I hope in the near future I will be able to paint a few more of similar miniatures to finish experiments with reds.

 Сандип Десай - очень очень интересная миниатюра для покраски, но сомерженно ужасная для фотографирования. У меня так не получилось сделать фотографий,  на которых все части миниатюры выглядят похожими на себя. Агрх!

Эту миниатюру я начал ещё летом, и проводил на ней эксперименты по поиску новых покрасочных рецептов для НММ, красного и покраски лиц. Эксперименты по покраски лц вылились в гайд по покраске лица Йохана, красным и НММ я ещё не полностью доволен.

Красный плащ делался на основе Вальеховиских Bermellon, Burnt cad. red, Scarlett и Basic red от Andrea. Далее я планирую больше использовать красные от Anrdea, например Dark Red. Надеюсь в ближайшее время мне удастся покрасить ещё несколько подобных миниаюр, чтобы закончить эксперименты с красными отттенками

Spider silk assassin

Another lady from Kingdom Death, which I painted last winter and forgot to show photos.
The main idea was to use different shades of red and red-violet. Therefore, reddish shadows were made for the skin (by lining after completing all stages of working with the skintone).
An interesting feature of this miniature - the lack of heels and the corresponding open shoe sole - led to the idea of dyeing the mark with bright red and thereby making a kind of analog Labuten. Well, after the "Labuten" came "ohuitelnie" ("fucking cool", "badass" or something like this) pants *...
* For non-russian speaking, I here refer to the clip "Exhibit" of the group "Leningrad".

Еще одна барышня из Kingdom Death, которую я покрасила еще прошлой зимой и забыла выложить.
Основная идея была использовать разные оттенки красного и красно-фиолетового. Поэтому для кожи были сделаны красноватые тени (лайнингом после завершения всех этапов работы с кожей). 
Интересная особенность этой миниатюры - отсутствие каблуков и соотвественно открытые подметки - навели на идею покрасить подметку яркокрасным и тем самым сделать некий аналог лабутенов. Ну а вслед за "лабутенами" пришли и "ох...тельные"* штаны... Как без них.
*Для нерусскоязычных я тут ссылаюсь на клип группы Ленинград "Экспонат".

Iron Warriors legionary. Again.

Legionnaire Athlon 3rd Line Company of the XCV Grand Batallion. 

Legionnaire Athlon was the offspring of one of the aristocratic families at Olympia before becoming a warrior of the IV Legion. Athlon distinguished himself with arrogance and when the Tyrant of the XCV grand battalion ordered all Olympian legionnaires to engrave their armour with Olympian ornaments this legionnaire engrave far more gliphs than he was supposed to be on status. Perhaps the legionary Athlone will survive long enough to deserve them.

When painting the previous squad of Iron Warriors, I was confronted with the fact that each next miniature became slightly brighter than the previous one. The first models I tried to withstand in more darker colors, which coincides with the fluff of the fourth legion, but they turned out to be very faceless.
After that, I began to paint the legionnaires brighter and added more bronze elements and yellow-black chevrons. And the miniatures began to get more brughter and interestning.
I liked much how the miniature looks at the WIP stages, but when I glued all parts after painting, it turned out that it looked too clean and bright for the Iron Warrior. At the end of the ponts, I forced to make a few dark gray glazes to muffle the brightness and add more dark brown in the shade. Also I added a bit of rust and  battledamage to the armor.
Unfortunately, such manipulations have somewhat spoiled the clearness and smoothness of painting, but the model has become closer to rest Iron Warriors I painted.

Легионер Атлон, 3я линейная рота, XCV Гранд-батальон.

Легионер Атлон являлся отпрыском одной из аристократических семей на Олимпии перед тем как стал воином IV легиона. Атлон отличаслся высокомерностью и когда Тиран XCV гранд батальона повелел всем легионерам-олимпийцам нанести олимнийские орнаменты на свои доспех легионер нанес их куда больше, чем ему полагаось по статусу. Возможно легионер Атлон проживет достаточно долго, чтобы заслужить их. 

При покраске предыдущего отряда Жезезных Воинов я столкулся с тем, что каждая следующая миниатюра становилась немного ярче предыдущей. Первые модели я старался выдержать в более мрачяных тонах, что совпадает с бэком четвертого легиона, но они получались очень безликими.
После этого, я стал красить легионеров ярче и добавлял быльне бронзовый элементов и желто-черных шевронов. И миниатюры стали получаться более зрелишными.
Эта миниатюра очень хорошо смотрелась в процессе покраски, но когда я совместил элементы, оказалось, что она выглядил слищком уж чисто и ярко для Железного Воина. В конце понцов мне пришлось сделать несколько темно-серых глазировок, чтобы приглушить яркость и добавить больше темно-коричневого в тени. Так же в конце я добавил немного ржавчины и повреждений на доспех.
К сожалению, подобные манипуляции несколько подпортили чистоту и плавнось покраски, но зато модель стала меньше выбиваться из рада себе подобных.

Chaos Dwarf Magma Cannon

Finally, it's  fully painted! This miniature was started 5 years ago, in May 2012. And it was done with very looooooooong breaks all this time. Therefore, in places this work looks like the monster of Dr. Frankenstein - assembled from different parts, painted with different levels of painting skills. After this amount of time, it's interesting to see the changes in the basic paint recipes that I used. Almost everywhere I switched from paint GW to Vallejo, except gray skn, where Vallejo was originally.
However, nothing stands still and now I would like to radically change the schemes of the bronze and gold NMM to reach a new level of skills and try something different.

It remains to do only one small thing - to rearrange the cannon to the gaming base and add it to my Chaos Dwarfs army

Наконец-то заончена! Эта миниатюры была начата ещё 5 лет назад, в мае 2012 года. И делалась с ооооооочень большими перерывами всё это время. Поэтому местами эта работа выглядит как чудовище Доктора Франкенштейна - собранная из разных частей, покрашенных с разным уровнем навыков покраски. По прошествии такого количества времени довольно интересно постмотреть на изменение основных покрасочных рецептов, которыми я пользовался. Практически везде я перешел с красок ГВ на Вальехо, кроме серой кожи, где Вальехо был изначально.

Однако ничто не стоит на месте и теперь я хотел бы радикально изменить рецепты брозового и золотого НММ, чтобы выйти на новый уровень навыков и потробовать что-то иное. 

Осталось сделать только одно маленькое дело - переставить пушку на игровую подставку и добавить её в мою армию гномов хаоса.

Malifaux Mondays #66: Wokou raiders

A couple of years ago I painted few figures for the Ten Thunders band. This summer it was possible to supplement the band with several new miniatures, one of which was a new version of Misaki, and two others - Wokou raiders.
All of them successfully supplemented the old miniatures. Also I exhibited this band in the contest "La Bande en Parade" in September, where this squad took first place in its category, and also received a grand prix.

Пару лет назад я покрасила некоторое количество миниатюр для банды 10 Громов. Этим летом представилась возможность дополнить банду несколькими новыми миниатюрами, одной из которых была новая версия Мисаки , а две другие - Wokou raiders.
Все они удачно дополнили старые миниатюры и составили отряд, который я выставляла в конкурс "Банду на параде" в сентябре, где этот отряд занял первое место в своей категории, а также получил гранпри. 

Maria, female villager

Female villager Maria (miniature Kitty Chaperon from Maow Miniatures) is very tiny and thin girl. It was not easy to clean it, cause the figure is cast from resin. I had to work very carefully with the edge of the blade.
It was a very interesting commission that went to Canada. For the first time the customer sent me such a detailed and, most importantly, illustrated guide how to paint miniature. All is clear and easy to understand, what colors on what clothes, where to turn a hand, what base to make and so on.
In general it was fun to work with this girl.

Селянка Мария (миниатюра Kitty Chaperon от Maow Miniatures). Очень миниатюрная и тонкая девушка. Было непросто ее зачистить, так как фигурка отлита из смолы. Пришлось очень аккуратно поработать острием лезвия и кое-где долепить.
Это был очень интересный заказ, который отправился в Канаду. Впервые мне заказчик прислал настолько подробное и, что главное, проиллюстрированное руководство к действию. Все четко и по делу, какие цвета на каких предметах одежды, куда повернуть руку, какую базу сделать.
В общем было весело возиться с этой девочкой.

Daemonsmith project: the final

Finally, the project "Daemonsmith" is over and I can show you the photos of the finished work.

Throughout the whole time I tried to give this dwarf the most grim appearance, while retaining the  miniature own style.

The most difficult part of this project was the combination of cold reflexes from crystals and a warm glow of the fireball in the hand. Also, it was necessary to save the helmet as a focal point of a miniature, because of which I abandoned the glow in the upper part, replacing it with a bright red collar.

I hope this project was not only useful for me, but also for the readers of the blog. I tried to keep some of the recipes and nuances used in the painting process.

Наконец-то проект "Демонический Кузнец" закончен и я могу показать вам фотографии законченной работы.

На протяжении всего времени я пытался придать этому гному наиболее мрачный вид, сохраняя при этом стиль, заложенный при лепке. 

Наиболее сложной частью всего проекта стало совмещение холодных рефлексов от кристаллов и теплого свечения огненного шара в руке цверга. При этом нужно было сохранить шлем как фокусную точку миниатюры, из-за чего пришлось отказаться от свечения в верхней части, заменив его ярко-красным воротником.

Надеюсь, этот проект был не только полезен для меня, но и для читателей блога. Я постарался сохранить часть рецептов и нюансов, использованных в процессе покраски.
